A Message From The County About the MAT
The 4% Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) for Prince Edward County will come into effect on February 1, 2021.
We're working on the remittance details and have a few new updates to share:
- The 4% MAT will only be applicable to bookings that are received on or after February 1, 2021 (e.g. if you have existing reservations for summer 2021, or receive bookings between now and January 31, 2021, these bookings will not be subject to the MAT)
- The MAT remittance details (e.g. how, when, where, etc) will be publicly available and shared via newsletter and on the MAT webpage by December 15, 2020.
- We've heard loud and clear that accommodation providers, particularly STA operators, prefer that Airbnb collects and remits the MAT to the municipality on behalf of hosts. We're in talks with Airbnb to see whether this is feasible. At this time, the accommodator is responsible for collecting and remitting MAT. We will provide an update should that change in the future.
